The Humane Society of the Ochocos is currently working towards building a more suitable, permanent shelter to better care for our community’s animals and serve the population continuing long into the future. The community animal shelter was built as a TEMPORARY building in 1995 … 28 years ago! We are currently finalizing construction documents in preparation for the permitting process at the beginning of 2024!

Phase 1 is the Dog Wing which includes:
~nearly double the kennel space to keep pace with the population explosion of 47% since the original TEMPORARY building was constructed in 1995
~site preparation;
~proper HVAC for disease containment, odor control, and comfort;
~plumbing for commercial washing of laundry and kennels;
~grooming area;
~stray receiving and police hold area;
~isolation area;
~puppy nursing area
~kitchen for food and water prep
