The Humane Society of the Ochocos Foster Care Program is for animals that are not, at the present time, adoptable. This is where your help is invaluable!!
Some reasons a pet is not ready for the forever home include:
- Puppies and kittens that are too young for adoption
- Animals with injuries or ailments needing time to recover
- Animals needing socialization
- Mothers with litters needing to stay together until babies are weaned
- Fospice for those needing a soft place to land at the end of their life
- An animal not adjusting well to shelter life
- Animals pending their spay/neuter surgery
Foster parent volunteers take care of these animals in their own home for a specific amount of time that fits your schedule, providing daily care, feeding, administration of medicine (if needed), and tender loving care during that period. HSO provides all of the supplies! Animals remain the custody of HSO and, when ready for adoption, are returned to the shelter for placement. Foster parents always have the option of playing an active role in finding the perfect adoptive home for their foster in alignment with HSO’s adoption procedures and requirements.

TERMS & EXPECTATIONS:
HSO considers our Foster Parents to be essential to the welfare and proper placement of our pets, and wishes the experience to be enjoyable and free from misunderstandings. Please note that we have the following guidelines:
The Foster Parent will follow all relevant procedures and guidelines of HSO regarding the pet placed in the foster home and will not make decisions or take actions regarding the pet’s veterinary care or placement without prior approval from HSO.
The veterinarians working with HSO bill HSO directly for approved medical services provided to our pets.
The Foster Parent will provide the pet with humane care and maintain the pet in accordance with all current state, county and municipal laws and ordinances while the pet resides with the Foster Parent.
The Foster Parent will provide the pet with necessary exercise and will not keep the pet chained or restrained. HSO pets should not be kept as “outside only” pets unless prior approval has been received from HSO.
The Foster Parent will assume responsibility for any charges/fees associated with general pet ownership at their rental home or apartment complex. This includes all pet deposits and pet rental fees. Approval is required from the Foster Parent’s landlord.
The Foster Parent agrees to provide the pet with adequate food, water, shelter, affection, socialization, exercise, medical assistance, and to strive to increase the adoptability of the pet through social media and/or providing updates to HSO to properly “advertise” the pet’s character and personality. If assistance with food or supplies is needed, HSO will provide upon request.
If the pet cannot be kept by the Foster Parent, the Foster Parent shall notify HSO immediately. The pet shall not be sold, abandoned, relinquished to a shelter, rescue, or to any third party.
THE FOSTER PARENT UNDERSTANDS THAT CARE AND ITS REPRESENTATIVES HAVE LIMITED INFORMATION REGARDING THE TEMPERAMENT OF THE PET OR ITS HABITS. THE FOSTER PARENT WILL TAKE ALL REASONABLE PRECAUTIONS (THROUGH THE USE OF CRATES, LEASHES, SUPERVISION AND COMMON SENSE) TO ENSURE THE PET DOES NOT RUN LOOSE, BECOME A NUISANCE, DESTROY PROPERTY, INJURE OR BE INJURED BY ANOTHER ANIMAL OR INJURE OR BE INJURED BY ANY PERSON.
The pet is and shall remain the property of HSO and may be removed by HSO from the Foster Parent at any time and without prior notice.
The Foster Parent agrees to be courteous, helpful and honest to potential adopters and to fully cooperate in accommodating those who wish to see the pet.
In the event the Foster Parent wishes to permanently adopt the pet (foster fail!), an HSO Adoption Contract must be submitted to HSO along with the requested adoption fee.
The Foster Parent should ensure that all of its pets are up to date on their vaccinations (including, but not limited to, Bordetella, parvo, corona, rabies, distemper, etc.) prior to bringing the pet into the foster home.
THE FOSTER PARENT DOES HEREBY RELEASE, DISCHARGE AND HOLD HARMLESS the Humane Society of the Ochocos (HSO) AND ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION CHARGED OR CHARGEABLE WITH LIABILITY TOGETHER WITH THEIR HEIRS, ADMINISTRATORS, EXECUTORS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DAMAGES, COSTS, EXPENSES, LOSS OF SERVICES, ACTIONS OR CAUSES OF ACTION, WHETHER KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, BELONGING TO THE FOSTER PARENT DUE TO ANY ACTION OR OCCURRENCE ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE FOSTERING OF A PET FOR CARE.
BY SUBMITTING A FOSTER PARENT APPLICATION YOU HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED YOUR AGREEMENT TO THE FOREGOING TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
